Information about the band in different languages

The international distress call sounds in the streets. The May Day Jazzband is approaching. With their thrilling outfit they march through the streets of every well known jazz festival in the Netherlands and in many other countries. The uniform is sure to be noticed, red, blue, green, purple, yellow Rock & Roll blouses, anything to attract attention, they do not want to get lost in the dark. For camouflage purpose and when the weather is bad, the uniform is extended with a white waisted jacket. When the performance becomes too splashing, the May Day shows up with a real waterproof bobby helmet.

During the many performances on the jazz festival in their home town Bergen op Zoom, they have played twice in the church, together with (among others) the American blues singer Linda Hopkins en Rosa King. The second time they were asked for this spectacular service they played with the singer Madeline Bell. Besides that, the May Day has played on festivals in Germany (among others Celle and Dresden), but also Denmark, Belgium and Switzerland have had the honour to get to know the sounds of the May Day. One of the yearly festivities is the Boxing Day Jazz Concert. Every year the May Day succeeds in entertaining and surprising the audience. Living fireworks, reception wit Gluhwein, Champagne at midnight, nothing is too much.

The May Day is founded on a day in May 1995, but still they have not lost their enthusiasm. The band will give a spectacular performance on each festival. The music varies from old style New Orleans via Rock & Roll and Soul to Hot Club de France. You will hear old ballads, but also real Funk will sound from the instruments of the May Day. The May Day keeps on changing their repertoire so that each performance is refreshing like a dive into a cold river (with wild lemon-freshness).

By origin the May Day is a street parade band, but is has been proven that the performance from the May Day on stage is a worthwhile colourful experience. Besides all the overwhelming musical stuff, the May Day is also a ‘Must’ for the eye to see! No costs are spared to get the choreography right. Amazing dancing steps with the trumpet section, the banjos with their ‘Normal-shuffle’ and if the rhythm section is not playing for once, they still steal the show! The May Day is a band that takes care of a huge amount of musical entertainment with their form of Free Style Enterjazzment™ on every festival.
